Bear Ye One Another’s Burdens

I wanted to share with my readers something that my mothers pastor shared with her. I felt it was a great expression in written form on how we are to Bear Ye One Another’s Burdens. Thank you Shepherd Mother Logan for sharing these wonderful words of inspiration that came from your Man of God, Pastor Fredrick Cornelius!

Saints of the most High God,
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:15, 16.

We must understand that any neglect of duty to the needy and to the afflicted is a neglect of duty to Christ in the person of His saints. When the cases of all come in review before God, the question What did we profess? is never asked, but, What have we done? Have we been doers of the Word? Or have we lived for ourselves? Have we exercised our works of benevolence, in deeds of kindness, in love preferring others before ourselves, and denying ourselves that we might bless others?

If the record shows that this has been our life, that our characters have been marked with tenderness, self-denial, and benevolence, then we will receive the blessed assurance and benediction from Christ, “Well done.” …

Saints, our spiritual strength and blessing will be proportionate to the labor of love and good works which we perform. The injunction of the apostle is, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Gal. 6:2).
Keeping the commandments of God requires of us good works, self-denial, self-sacrifice, and devotion for the good of others, not that our good works alone can save us, but that we surely cannot be saved without good works.

After we have done all that we are capable of doing we are then to say, We have done no more than our duty, and at best are unprofitable servants, unworthy of the smallest favor from God. Christ must be our righteousness. . ..

All around us there are those who have soul hunger and who long  for love expressed in words and deeds. Friendly sympathy and real feelings of tender interest for others would bring to our souls blessings that we have never yet experienced, and would bring us into close relation to our Redeemer, whose advent to the world was for the purpose of doing good, and whose life we are to copy. What are we doing for Christ?

God Bless

12 Year Old Boy’s Funeral I Went To Today!

This is the first funeral for 2008 that I have gone to. It saddens my heart when I have to attend funerals for young black men and women. This young man, Joshua Jackson who was only 12 years old was shot and killed last week at a birthday party! I felt compelled to go to his funeral to pray for and with the family. To see the hundreds of 12 and 13 year olds gathered around the “full couch” open casket made my heart sad. After I left, the Lord gave me this revelation. Would any of these kids been in church on Sunday morning or would they all be in their beds sleeping not knowing that there is a place that they could go to and get their souls fed the word of God. Just like it took the death of Jesus Christ to save the whole world, so it took the death of Joshua Jackson to pack a church out full of young people to hear a message of hope. A message that you don’t have to leave the same way you came in. A message that Jesus Christ is Lord and today if you hear his voice, harden not your heart. We tend to ask ourselves why? Why Lord did this 12 year old boy have to die? Because of sin coupled with free will, the Lord cannot force anyone to give their life to Him however He (The Lord Jesus) wishes that all should come into the knowledge of Him and accept Him as their personal Lord and God. This is a hard pill to swallow because we all are going to miss Joshua Jackson, however, because of this funeral service, Jesus was introduced to over 1,000 souls who probably would never have heard of Christ if it was not for the death of their dearly beloved friend. It is my prayer that the Jackson family take comfort in knowing, God can still get glory out of this tragedy. God can provide unto you the peace that passeth all your understanding. Take courage my dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Name!

Joshua Jackson

Hundreds of friends and family members packed a north Charlotte church this afternoon in a tearful and emotional farewell to a 12-year-old who was shot and killed at a birthday party last Sunday night.A horse-drawn carriage brought the casket of Joshua Jackson to St. Paul Baptist Church late this morning, and about 800 mourners packed the sanctuary of the church for a service that mixed music, inspirational eulogies, and plenty of tears.”Look at all the people here today,” said the Rev. Kevin Wright, associate pastor of St. Paul Baptist. “Joshua left an indelible impression on people. You can tell what kind of person he was.”

Police are still looking for multiple gunmen who opened fire late last Sunday night in the parking lot of Rameses Temple No. 51 on Beatties Ford Road, as a 16-year-old’s birthday party was ending. Hundreds of youths ran for safety when the shots rang out, but Joshua and two teens were hit.

The teens survived. Joshua, a sixth-grader at Ranson Middle School, died.

Joshua’s mother, Beverly Jackson, told the Observer last week that several youths who were in the parking lot have given the family the names of two gunmen who might have been involved in the killing. But police say they need more information and have not made any arrests.

Beverly Jackson and other family members arrived at the church about 11:30 a.m. Jackson broke down in tears as she entered the church and was helped to her seat by family members. The opening prayer of the service was interrupted for more than five minutes when several women sitting near the front of the church began crying loudly.

During the service, Joshua’s brothers and sisters read farewell notes to their brother.

“I miss my little brother,” Joshua’s older brother, Floyd, said. “I miss the way he laughed at all my jokes. Sometimes we’d get mad at each other, but I love my little brother.”

Standing next to the 12-year-old’s casket was a large photo of Joshua in his football uniform. On the left side of the casket were several easels, containing letters written to Joshua by friends. Members of the West Charlotte Redskins, a youth football team of which Joshua was a member, sat together in the front of the sanctuary during the service.

Several players from the team were among the pallbearers.

“He was just the nicest young man, a pleasure to be around,” said Tony Orr, who coached Joshua for two years with the Redskins. “He was a very good running back. If he had kept working at it, he’d have had quite a future. It’s so sad, being here today for this.”

Church Spotlight of the Week: Pentecostal United Church of Christ Apostolic

Pentecostal United Church of Christ Apostolic

4430 Pamplico Hwy.

Florence, SC 29505

(843) 669-3113

Bishop Fred Graham, Pastor

Today I had the privilege of visiting a church in Florence, SC by the name of Pentecostal United Church of Christ Apostolic. I decided to play hookie from my home church in Columbia, SC and took the back roads from Charlotte all the way down to Florence, SC. This is one of the most friendliest “Word Based” Apostolic Church and I don’t think it can get any better than that. Matter of fact, this church is just like and believes exactly like the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I felt right at home with the prayer veils, no make up and earrings, no women preachers, you name it, it just could not get any better than this. If you are ever in the Florence, SC area you need to visit this church (and when you drive, don’t look for a store front, look for a BIG church lol). Thanks Pentecostal for showing me and my church buddy a great time in the Lord today.

2008 Grammy Gospel Performance

Aretha Frankin

BeBe Winan’s

Madison Bumble Bee’s (UHOP)

The Clark Sisters

Trin-i-tee 5:7

Israel & New Breed

2 Comments! Why does Hollywood always have to hire some generic gospel choir and put them on some generic “graduation gown” choir robes? (Uh, Ricky Dillard and New G are for hire you know). Wassup with Aretha Franklin wearing all yellow like that. Its not even spring time. All in all, I still give the performance an A+.

P.S. I am tripple suprised that the United House of Prayer for all People SHOUT BAND (Madison Bumble Bees) are getting nationwide recognition (now if we can only get them to give honor where honor is due and thats to Jesus Christ ONLY and not all them Daddy’s). They sure did play and you better believe Sunday after church I am still going to eat their food lol! Ma Sha!!!!!!!!!!

            Greater Mt. Calvary Email

            email.gif

37 days into the New Year and we already have found ourselves at the brink of yet another major scandal in a prominent African American church by the name of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church which is located in Washington, DC. A few nights ago a friend of mine told me about it but I really did not understand what was going on until I myself opened up my email and found this horrendous email concerning members of the Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church.

Saints, when are we going to learn? Granted right is right and wrong is wrong, but if this person who initiated this email had any Holy Ghost sense, they should have never put this in writing. Aside from the numerous grammatical errors in this email, it names First and Last names of Choir Members, Deacons, Praise Team Leaders and Ministers who actively participate in the homosexual lifestyle.

My question to you is this, WHO MADE YOU GOD? When do we get to decide to scandalize our brothers and sisters name all in the Name of whats Holy and Good? Did not Jesus Himself say in John 8:7 “John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stoneat her.” On top of that, this email was based solely on hearsay and conversations that other people were saying. To top all of this off, the sister names brothers in the church who are “heterosexual” and whom supposedly really love the Lord as if to spare them from the wrath of God. I am so saddened that we have to stoop this low to leave a “paper trail” of gossip. This is just plane ole MESSY in my book. What if the 100 or so souls decide to leave the church, the hospital for the sin sick soul, and never come back and die in their mess and go straight to hell. Their blood is going to be on the hand of those that allowed such ignorance to permeate God’s house.

Granny always said, there are 3 sides to every story, Your side, Their side and THE TRUTH! It is this TRUTH that is going to make you free indeed. Granted, we are never to tolerate the Spirit of Jezebel in our local assemblies, but it is God who does the sifting. Jesus Himself said that the wheat and the tare must grow up together because if we start pulling up the tare, some of the wheat might be pulled up with it.

It would be different if Mt. Calvary did not have a program that helps homosexuals become free from their sexual sin. It would be different if Mt. Calvary did not help people with AIDS and when they cant afford money for medicine, the church comes to their rescue. It would be different if after an individual dies from AIDS and has no money to be buried that Mt. Calvary is the one who comes and bury’s you! Stop the madness saints.

If you have a problem with a certain person or group of persons in the church, go to your pastor and express your concern, don’t be a messy individual and email the pastor and 300 of your closest friends whats going on. Enough is enough! It is my prayer that everyone who reads this stays out of church mess, shut your mouth, and pray!

Outing campaign roils D.C. black Pentecostal Church
More than 100 members named as gay in e-mails to pastor, congregation
By LOU CHIBBARO JR. | Jan 30, 2:14 PM

One of Washington’s largest black Baptist churches was rocked by a female member of its choir who sent separate e-mail messages to the pastor in December and January outing more than 100 church members as gay, mostly male choir members.

The outings added to the inner turmoil experienced by a large number of gays who attend services at the 7,000-member Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church, located on Rhode Island Ave., N.E., according to a gay former member who provided copies of the e-mails to the Blade.

“I will be leaving the choir at the top of the year because 80 percent of the tenors are homosexuals and act more like a female in choir rehearsal than I do,” the church choir member said in one of her e-mails to Bishop Alfred Owens Jr., the church pastor.

The e-mail, sent in December, identifies about 45 fellow church members as gay. She sent a second e-mail to Owens on Jan. 2 identifying another 62 church members as gay.

“The following people I am asking you to monitor very closely and my prayer is that you will sit them down from their ministries,” she told Owens in the December e-mail. “Because they are ushering in the presence of sin, lies, a spirit of homosexuality and sexual spirits.”

She sent a copy of her e-mails to a Yahoo list group that goes to more than 300 church members, the gay former church member said.

The gay former church member redacted all of the names from the copies of the e-mails he sent to the Blade, including the name of the choir member who orchestrated the outings.

Officials with the National Black Justice Coalition, a Washington-based group that advocates for African-American gays, and the D.C. Coalition of Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Men & Women, said they have seen or spoken with people who have seen un-redacted copies of the e-mails.

“There’s no doubt that these e-mails included all those names and they were read by a lot of people,” said Brian Watson, president of the D.C. Coalition.
Owens and Greater Mount Calvary Associate Pastor T. Cedric Brown did not return calls seeking comment by press time.

Owens became the subject of media attention in April 2006 when he used the word “fag” in a sermon on Palm Sunday.

“It takes real men to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior,” Owens said in the sermon, which was recorded by the church. “I’m not talking about no faggot or no sissy,” he said. “Let the real men come down here and take a bow — all the real men. I’m talking about straight men … praise God that you’re straight.”

The church’s web site includes a listing of twice-monthly sessions of a ministry called “Breaking the Chains of Homosexuality,” which it says helps gays change their sexual orientation through counseling and prayer. Minister Dennis Sawyers, an expert in “ex-gay” ministries, is listed as the leader of the church’s efforts to counsel gays.

The former gay member of Greater Mount Calvary who provided copies of the outing e-mails to the Blade, has withheld his own name. He used the pen name “Jeff Hammer” in his own e-mail correspondence with the Blade.

He said Owens responded to the first e-mail by calling a meeting of all members of the church’s numerous singing groups. The groups include the Alfred Owens Chorale, the Sanctuary Choir, the Celebration Choir, Voices of Calvary and the Male Chorus, among other groups.

“He said he only wanted to help people who wanted help to not be gay and that he was willing to help anybody change from being gay,” the former church member said.

The former member quoted Owens as telling people attending the meeting, “The Bible says that wheat and tares grow together but there are too many tares. When the tares outnumber the wheat I got to do something.”

According to the former church member, Owens said, “I’m going to meet with all the people mentioned in the e-mail and use my discernment to figure out who needs to be monitored or sat down from what they do …”

“My name was not on the list in any of these e-mails, but I think it is horrible,” the former church member said. “We give, pay tithes, dues and whatever, and this is how we are treated,” he said. “This is discrimination, humiliation and just mean.”

Sylvia Rhue, director of the National Black Justice Coalition’s religious affairs program and a licensed clinical therapist with a doctorate in human sexuality, said she was troubled but not surprised to hear that a large number of gays continue to join and worship at a church like Greater Mount Calvary.

“We know that many of the gays that go there like the traditional setting of a church like that,” she said. “It tears at your soul. It has the potential of causing depression, drug use and other harmful effects.”

Rhue said the NBJC recently released a publication called “Guide To Welcoming Congregations in the African-American Tradition,” which offers suggestions on how traditional black churches can be open and supportive of gays while remaining faithful to biblical teachings.

Watson of the D.C. Coalition said he knows a number of gays who remain members of Greater Mount Calvary, something Watson said he finds difficult to understand. As someone one who was raised in a church-going family in Oklahoma City, Watson said he attended services at Greater Mount Calvary when he moved to D.C.

“I did not join because the views there are clearly homophobic,” he said. “But it seems to be one of the more popular churches among black gays … I don’t know why these people keep going back there.”

Rick Rosendall, a spokesperson for the D.C. Gay & Lesbian Activists Alliance, said he, too, was troubled over why so many gays would continue to attend and support a church that is less than welcoming to them.

“Our city has several welcoming and affirming congregations,” he said. “In the end, there is little that can be done for people who utterly refuse to respect themselves enough to stand up for themselves. If this particular incident wakes up some people and causes them to reevaluate their association with anti-gay churches and ministers, that could be the start of a salutary movement.”

The choir member who initiated the outing campaign at Greater Mount Calvary introduced herself to Bishop Owens as a deeply concerned member of the church.

“I am a female who has been a member of the Alfred A. Owens Chorale over five years,” she wrote in the first e-mail. “I have many friends in all of the choirs. However, people talk in my choir and I have overheard so many conversations, and pictures tell no lie.”

She added, “90.9 percent of the tenors in Sanctuary choir are homosexual. 99.9 percent of all the tenors in Celebration Choir are homosexual, including xxxxxx, but he is very undercover, aka, down low with his sex life.”

After naming more than a dozen men she claims are gay, she pointed to someone else she said was gay who “serves on the ushers board” and who “is always at gay parties drinking and drugging and is currently living with his boyfriend, Deacon xxxxx.”

She said another choir member “visits the gay clubs in the area weekly, i.e., the Bachelors Mill, the Delta, the Fireplace and Halo. He also attends private sex parties that male members of your choirs are having at their homes and
            hotels.”

The gay former church member who sent the outing e-mails to the Blade also sent a copy of a separate e-mail from an outraged gay church member who was among those named in the first two e-mails as gay.

“I do not believe that someone would [have] the nerve to put my name to a list of known gays,” he wrote in an e-mail sent to Owens and members of the church Yahoo group. “This has gone too far, I am not going down by myself.”

He went on to name other gays, including some in high-level church positions.

“It is so bad that in the last e-mail we are turning on each other,” the gay former church member, who sent copies of the e-mails to the Blade, said. “Although I wanted to remain anonymous, someone has to do something.”

Leaders of two of D.C.’s largest gay churches, acting Pastor Mark Byrd of Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, and Bishop Kwabena Rainey Cheeks of Inner Light Ministries, did not respond to requests for comment on the Greater Mount Calvary outings by press time.

            I CAN’T STAND MY CHURCH!

Missionary Butterfly is in the Tarry room and she is telling the soul/seeker to say Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! In between Jesus she begins to ask the soul if he has a girlfriend.

Elder Jack Leg was sent to preach by The Holy One of Israel and Assistant Pastor Frog decides not to show up to church because he cant stand Elder Jack Leg.

The Holy One of Israel silenced Brother Do Right for homosexual innuendo’s made to a minor but the royal click of the church sees no wrong in what Brother Do Right did. So, they pat him on the back and say “Oh, don’t you worry, you’ll just have to sit out of the choir for a few months and when this all blows over, no one will even remember that you were WRONG and that the Holy One of Israel was RIGHT.

Pastor Pudding Pop has 7 children with 4 different women and is getting a divorce with his current wife but has a membership of over 10,000 who attend 2 Sunday church services.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOUR CHURCH?

December 31, 2007 each one of us danced the victory in various church’es during our New Years Eve celebration services. We claimed that 2008 was going to be great! We claimed that all of our troubles will be over and that since the number “8″ is the number of new beginnings, 2008 must be a new beginning for me! Sadly, 39 days into the new year, we have scandals upon scandals that are breaking out all over our churches.

Instead of people running to the church for safety, people are running the opposite direction of the church. Instead of the Church changing souls, it seems as if the church wants to look like the world, talk like the world and act just like the world.

Divorce, fornication and back biting is at an all time high in the church. We cant just sit back and say “Oh, well its the last days, this is suppose to happen”. That scripture was not for the Church! That scripture is for the World. The bible says in the last days “He will pour out His Spirit among all men” it did not say that in the last days the “Church of God was going look just like the world and act just like the world and that we were suppose to tolerate that spirit in the church”. Ahh, but you say “Well Paul said to save yourself”. Yes, he did say that, if I save myself, and you save yourself, then our churches that are preaching the truth are NOT suppose to be going through the things that they are going through.

Pastors want more members so they can get more money. They preach a water down gospel of blessings (and no curses). They preach “jump up and spin around and He will place your feet on solid ground”. THAT IS NOT BIBLICAL PREACHING!

What do I propose we do?

            Celebrating Black History Month!

            Black History Month
Truth comes to us from the past, then, like gold washed down from the mountains.
            -Carter G. Woodson

Black history and culture is such a part of the American fabric — and the school curriculum — that it’s difficult to imagine a time when that wasn’t so. Established as Negro History Week in the 1920’s by Carter G. Woodson, February was chosen for the celebration because Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln were born in this month. Extended to a month-long celebration in 1976, Black History Month is an opportunity to emphasize the history and achievements of African Americans.
