SAY IT ISN’T SO! My day has just been ruined seeing these pictures that was just emailed to me with BISHOP T.D. Jakes wearing a diamond stud earring in his left ear at his daughters wedding the other day. Friends of mine saw it live on Entertainment Tonight and was floored. You know, I hate to entertain rumors but this is no rumor at all! Bishop T.D. Jakes wears an earring!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY? WHAT? EXPLAIN MAN OF GOD! Explain. http://tdjenterprises.com/blog/?p=48
As a new resident of Dallas, TX I was really considering fellowshipping with the Potters House (I overlooked women clergy, women in pants, no prayer veils and the make up and jewelry) because the church does Baptise in Jesus Name and teach the Oneness Doctrine HOWEVER I am NOT DOWN with my MAN OF GOD wearing an earring (in or out the pulpit). I want an explanation. What do I tell my brothers in prison?? MY WITNESS will be destroyed if they came out of Prison and saw my pastor with an earring. Can we say 100% worldly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (why Lord WHY????) And to think, I just did a wonderful article a few months back on Bishop T.D. Jakes and the Potters House. Now I regret it. MEN and EARRINGS are NOT APOSTOLIC!
Would someone from the Potters House like to explain WHY Bishop Jakes wears an earring? Would you Bishop Jakes like to explain why you wear an earring? If its good for after church hours, should it not be good for the pulpit? How about when you are in the Baptismal Pool. Is it not good then too? How do you distinguish when you SHOULD and SHOULD NOT wear the earring? Help me to understand……please…I beg you!
1 John 2:15-17 (King James Version)
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
UPDATE June 26 2008
Apparently the earrings have been photo-shopd out of the picture on Bishop Jakes Blog however there are plenty of comments that were left on his asking “wassup” with the diamond earring. NOW, if you google the post, it DOES NOT EXIST anymore…. it is obvious that Bishop Jakes is speaking to us all in silence letting us know that he see’s the “major rift” him wearing the earring has caused. Google http://tdjenterprises.com/blog/?p=48 for yourself. NO MORE PICS, NO MORE BLOG. Oh well. Thats that! This is as of 6/26/2008 at 6:51pm.

On his website there doesn’t appear to be a stud in his ear in any of the pictures. But it could easily be made to disappear by using photoshop. I have also heard that he wears an earring.
I think this calls for an explanation from the Bishop himself. I want to know what’s going on as a friend of mine saw Entertainment Tonight last night and saw video photage of TD Jakes with the earring in his ear. What? was that a hoax too? What is going on??????
Whats wrong with an earring? A those people in the Bible of great faith had people say things about them to. my question is a parallel. I was just thinking about Eric Dyson criticizing Bill Cosby a man that has done so much for black people from his early shows to help sponsor the movie Malcolm X, now what has Eric Dyson done?
T.D. Jakes and I understand that there are standards but spiritually compare him under God/Jesus will with what any criticizer says or will say about him. I believe that if one finds a fault, they would have found one anyway, like women wearing pants in church and working in the church that account for over 80% of Church funds and population…
By the way I forgot to add Biblically and Historically, earrings came from men that the women picked up… Look it up yourselves…
I too would like to weigh in on Bishop akes earring. I will always respect God’s anointed leader no matter what they choose to do. If we read about King David and how he was convicted when he met King Saul in a cave sleeping and he cut off his skirt letting him know that he had the opportunity to kill him. He had to respect his position regardless of his wrongdoing. We too must be careful!!. I will say that I was highly disappointed and sadden by Bishop. We mustconstantly pray much for our leaders.
Respectfully submitted

If I told you 2 + 2 = 4 you would say that I am correct right? Right! However if I gave you the correct answer and then I myself believed that 2 + 2=5 you would question if I were really a math matician right? or you would at least question my judegement because according to the laws of math my belief is wrong.
When do we stop following a leader when they are erroneous. are wew truly suppose to stay and continue to watch their folley all in the name of “respecting” the title or position I hold????
Bishop is in error according to scripture however as long as there is life there is hope. Yes I agree and stand with you that we need to pray.
I really want The Bishop to address this concern since he is on a national platform and according to websites men are running out to get their ears pierced because of him. I could not believe some of the comments I read from carnal Christians (if there is even a term called carnal question…that’s an oxymoron as to be a christian is to be Christ like and forsake the ways of the world)
Let us all wait watch and pray and see what and IF he addresses this matter.
In all actuallity Bishop owes no man any explanation about what he does. Paul said to follow him as he followed Christ meaning do not get so caught up in me that you take your eyes off God. Now I don’t agree w/ the earing but that’s where it ends. We need to just hold all of our leaders up in prayer
The Bible lets us know that in the last days there would be a great falling away and if the days be not shortened that the very elect would be deceived. We would rather believe a lie than the truth. The lie is that bitter and sweet can come from the same fountain. That we can touch, taste and handle the unclean thing and still totally be uninfected and unaffected by those decision. In the last days he would send a STRONG delusion, strong enough to trick articulate, prestigious men who move from men of God to STARS (rats backwards). We often times need a hero(a so called spiritual hero),someone with flattery and motivating words. We choose to look past blatant flaws and allow the facade to go on unchallenged. We are not to challenge it to the point that we disrespect and dishonour the man of God, but that we pray and ask God to deal with the heart and motives of the men of God. You must also ask Gods intentions for you.Is it to remain under this questionable leadership or move on. The anointing is pure,God is flawless, our righteousness however is as a filthy rag. It appears that it is sometimes difficult for saints to be able to juggle celebrity status and the will of God. I guess that is why the instances where money was mentioned in the word of God it was not always mentioned in high regards. We love money, but in the word money was not what men of God pursued, it was ministry. Money follows ministry and not the opposite. When taxes needed to be paid you could find money in a fishes mouth. When an apostle was sent out to do the will of God then God would make the provision and they would take no purse but have to be sensitive and listen for the directive of the Lord. Not today, we have the “Im gonna make it” mentality. We are going to walk on streets of Gold in heaven. That stuff doesnt mean anything to the Lord. I am so disappointed but God has, through his word, prepared us for this very day. Pray church, fast church, for the day is fast approaching, and is now-that everythng that can be shaken-will be.
Of course someone who is full of the WORLD and has not learned to “come out from amongst them and be ye separate saith the Lord” would think that there is nothing wrong with earrings. If you want history, here are some scriptures concerning earrings…you be the judge:
Earrings were a “strange god” according to the old testament:
Genesis 35:4:
And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
What did GOD say about having other gods??:
Exodus 20:3
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Deuteronomy 6:14
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
There were pieces of jewelry worn on the ear lobe in Bible times (Gen 35:4). While these were generally worn only by Israelite women, the men among the ancient ISHMAELITES apparently wore earrings too (Judg 8:24-25). There is one incident where the Israelites (young men and women) brought their earrings to Aaron in order for him to make an idol out of it. It must have been an Egyptian custom for young men to wear earrings.
Ex 32:2-4
Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool.
Now what kind of beauty does the Bible suggest worth having? Real beauty is inside a person and affects others positively.
Peter 3:3-4
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
Real beauty is not self-centered.
I Timothy 2:9-10
“I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.”
Real beauty is found in the Lord.
Psalms 90:17
“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us…”
I have given you scriptures so judge for yourself if the wearing of earrings is right before the Lord.
