Hudson Family Funerals To Be Held At Apostolic Church of God

Private, public ceremonies for 3 victims in works

The invitation-only funeral will be held Monday on the South Side. The arrangements are being handled by Hudson Funeral Home, whose owners are related to the actress.

The family on Friday is expected to announce plans for a public memorial, according to the funeral home. The second service would allow fans to mourn the deaths of the Oscar-winner’s mother, Darnell Donerson, brother, Jason Hudson, and nephew Julian King.

Like Jennifer Hudson, Julian’s father has shunned the spotlight since the Oct. 24 slayings. Greg King’s only public appearance came last weekend when he stood beside the boy’s mother, Julia Hudson, as she tearfully pleaded for the 7-year-old’s safe return.

Julian’s paternal great-grandfather, Robey Williams, 80, said he’s grateful to the Hudson family for holding a private service. He has been haunted by thoughts of the boy’s final moments and says doesn’t want a national audience to witness his grief.

“I don’t know what I’ll do when I see his casket,” he said. “I cry when I think about it now. I don’t know what I’ll do in the church.”

Police consider Julia Hudson’s estranged husband, William Balfour, the primary suspect in the case, but have not charged him with the slayings. He remains in an Illinois prison on a parole violation.

Authorities found a gun Wednesday matching the caliber of weapon used in the killings.

Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis confirmed Thursday that the weapon recovered was a .45-caliber Sig Sauer semiautomatic handgun, but declined to comment on anything police may have learned from tests being done on the weapon.

Community leaders held a vigil outside the Hudson home on Thursday and called on law enforcement to solve the high-profile case.

“We need answers,” said John Paul Jones of the Greater Englewood Community and Family Task Force. “The world is watching.”

Pentecostal Perspective: You Are Better Than That! (Jennifer Hudson And Family, I Am Praying For You)

2 Samuel 12:9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

Second Samuel depicts a murder that was fueled by lust. King David had Uriah the former husband of Bathsheba killed just so that he could then marry Bathsheba. Awful the family of Uriah must have felt to see their son, their husband, their father KILLED out of lust . . .  and then King David takes Bathsheba to be his wife. Granted, this story is really about restoration from sin and shame to that of a broken and contrite heart before the Lord (And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. ) yet even in biblical times people have killed out of jelous rages just so that they could have their way. Perhaps to show how big and bad they are. Maybe to prove a point to onlookers that they are not to be messed with. Either way it goes, it is a sad thing to be controlled by lust. The lust of the flesh. The lust of the eyes. The lust within ones heart. Ultimately lust will kill.

I entitled this post “You Are Better Than That” because I am so sick and tired of people falling in love with one another, lusting so deeply until the very lives of ones family are ruined. We have all seen it this past week with the Jennifer Hudson story. Silly boyfriend kills mother, brother and nephew just to prove a point to the remaining family members that they can be big and bad. Look at me, I have the power to take life. You don’t want to listen to me, I’ll take whats close to you. I’ll fix you and show you! Who do you think you are messing with. Try me and see wont I cause you pain and misery for the rest of your life! I am so saddened that women and men alike fall prey to these type of people. People who really don’t love you. People who don’t care about your well being. People who just want to see you suffer and hurt as they sit and get pleasure out of causing you pain, anguish and misery. Its a sad day when lust causes one to not even think straight to the point where your boyfriend or girlfriend is exalted higher than ones own self worth. Aren’t you better than that? The answer is YES, YES you are better than that.

The age old saying goes “I can do bad all by myself” and even though there is no scripture in the Bible that supports this modern cliche, it holds so much truth. I’d rather struggle with my weight, than to settle for any old riff raff at the sake of being loved. I rather live pay check to pay check than to add a man or women in my life that really means me no good. I rather continue to live in the ghetto and eat my fat self into an oblivian than to take a no good ghetto brother/sister that could possibly kille me, my mother, father, sister, brother and child. WHY? Because I AM BETTER THAN THAT!

It saddens me to see that Jennifer Hudson and her remaining family members have to bury not one, not two but THREE loved one’s all because a relative DID NOT say NO to being treated they way he/she was treated. Life is more than just sex. Life is more than just feeling good. Life is about protecting yourself and those around you from hurt harm and danger.

Ohhh, but I know a man named Jesus Christ who can fix this problem. He can heal you from all your pain and suffering. Matter of fact, He died just so that YOU could have life and more abundantly. He took on the very form of man while still being 100% God to show you The Way, The Truth and The Life. Why? Because He is the way the truth and the life. John 14:6 clearly says that “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” So today Hudson family, present unto you JESUS. Child of God, I present unto you Jesus. Backslider, I present unto you JESUS. Seek Him while He may be found TODAY.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. The only way that YOU CAN BE BETTER is by taking on this peace that Christ offers you today. With that in mind, Hudson family, I am praying for you.

Political News: Police says Woman With ‘B’ Scratched In Face Faked Political Attack

Come on now, are you serious! This makes no sense what so over. STOP THE MADNESS!

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police said a 20-year-old woman who originally said she was robbed and assaulted at knifepoint in Bloomfield because of her political views made the story up.

Ashley Todd — who has a backward letter “B” scratched into her right cheek — confessed to faking the story and will be charged with filing a false report, Assistant Police Chief Maurita Bryant said at a news conference Friday.

Todd, of College Station, Texas, admitted there was no robbery or attacker and said she had prior mental health problems, according to Bryant.
Raw Video: Watch The Police News Conference

It’s not yet clear whether Todd’s face was mutilated by her, or if she had somebody else do it, because a police report states that she told them she can’t remember.

“We suspect she may have inflicted the injuries herself. We don’t think anyone else is involved,” Bryant said.

Todd said she was driving around in her car, looked in her rear-view mirror, saw a “B,” and the first thing she thought of was Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama, according to a police report obtained by WTAE Channel 4 Action News.

On Thursday afternoon, police reported that Todd told them she was using a Citizens Bank ATM at Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street when a man approached her and put a knife to her throat just before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Police spokeswoman Diane Richard said Todd told them the robber took $60, then became angry when he saw a sticker for Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain on Todd’s car. Todd said the man punched and kicked her before using a dull knife to scratch her face, Richard said.

“She further stated that the male actor approached her from the back again and hit her in the back of her head with an object, she doesn’t know what the object was, causing her to fall to the ground where he continued to punch her and kick her and threaten to ‘teach her a lesson’ for being a McCain supporter,” Richard said Thursday.

The woman refused medical treatment after the alleged assault, which happened outside the view of the bank’s surveillance cameras. That seemed suspicious to police.

“We have robbers here in Pittsburgh, but they don’t generally mutilate someone’s face like that. They take the money and run,” Bryant said.

Speaking to Channel 4 Action News on Friday, Richard said police decided to question Todd because the details of her story weren’t adding up.
Video:Raw Interview: Police Spokeswoman Talks to WTAE

“We have learned that the victim’s statement has a few inconsistencies in it and her statement has changed,” said Richard.

Richard said Todd said on Friday she wasn’t sure if it was a bumper sticker on her car or a campaign button on her jacket that angered the attacker. Richard said Todd added new details to the attack, saying at one point she lost consciousness.

“She also indicated she was sexually assaulted as well. She indicated that when he had her on the ground he put his hand up her blouse and started fondling her. But other than that, she says she doesn’t remember anything else. So we’re adding a sexual assault to this as well,” Richard said.

Police said they gave a polygraph test to Todd, but they didn’t release the results. During a follow-up interview, Todd came clean.

“Miss Todd stated she made up the story, which snowballed and got out of control. Miss Todd stated she was not robbed and there was no 6-foot-4 black male attacker,” Richard said.

On Thursday, before police said the story was a fake, both the Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin campaigns released statements about the attack.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,” the Obama-Biden statement said.

“The McCain campaign is aware of the incident involving one of its volunteers. Out of respect, the campaign won’t be commenting. The campaign also confirms that Senator McCain and Governor Palin have both spoken to the woman,” the McCain-Palin statement said.

Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother shot dead!

I wanted to post this for all my readers to see because I really am saddened that this has happened to this girl. I could only imagine what she might be going through and I want to solicit your prayers for her and the family. Yes this is secular news but that Jennifer Hudson can SANG ya hear and even though I personally don’t listen to R&B I have heard her sing time and time again on American Idol and Dream Girls the movie and I’ve actually heard her sing a great gospel number too. Let us pray for her and the family in the hour of this tragic loss.
Nephew, 7, missing; police search for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect

October 25, 2008

Staff Reporter

The mother and 29-year-old brother of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death inside their Chicago home yesterday, some seven hours after neighbours first reported hearing gunfire.

The body of Hudson’s mother Darnell Donnerson was found on the living room floor by a family member who entered the house just before 3 p.m.; her brother Jason was found dead in a bedroom.

One of the victims, police said, had defensive wounds; there was no sign of forced entry.

Family pastor Willie Davis of Progressive Baptist Church said Hudson, who has so far made no comment, was rushing home from Florida last night.

“They found Jennifer’s mother and her brother murdered in her mother’s home this afternoon,” Davis told Chicago CNN affiliate CLTV.

Police were talking to “a number of people in custody” last night, police spokesperson Monique Bond told the Associated Press.

Hudson, who rose to fame with her American Idol appearances in 2005, and won an Oscar in 2007 for best supporting actress for her role as Effie White in the film Dreamgirls, was in Tampa at the time.

Police spokesperson Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of a domestic disturbance, but did not elaborate.

Authorities quickly issued an Amber Alert for 7-year-old Julian King, Donnerson’s grandson and Hudson’s nephew. He was reported missing from the home by his mother, Hudson’s sister Julia, who works as a Chicago bus driver.

Officers were also looking for William Balfour, who they say is a suspect in the double homicide.

According to a police bulletin, he is described as “armed and dangerous.”

Balfour, who had been staying at the house, pleaded guilty in 1999 to attempted murder and vehicular hijacking, court records show. He was also convicted in 1998 of possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

“We have some promising leads, but it’s very preliminary right now,” said deputy police chief Joseph Patterson.

Investigators said Balfour may be driving a white 1994 Chevrolet Suburban, registered to Jason Hudson, which is missing from the home.

Some neighbours living near the big white house on South Yale Ave. reported hearing multiple shots around 8 a.m., but the bodies – Donnerson shot in the head, her son shot in the chest – weren’t found until 2:44 p.m., when a cousin entered the house, spotted Donnerson’s body, and called police.

According to local media reports, the cousin notified police who entered the house and found the body of Hudson’s brother.

In an interview last year with Vogue, Hudson – who grew up in Chicago – credited her mother with the decision to audition for American Idol, which launched her career.

In a recent interview, Hudson – whose father died when she was a teenager – credited her family for keeping her grounded.

“My faith in God and my family, they’re very realistic and very normal, they’re not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago, that’s just another place that’s home,” she said.

Just Say NO To Halloween! (A Brief History On This Gawd Awful Day)

Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

So you think your going to heaven partaking in the tradition of Halloween? THINK AGAIN! Do not be deceived dear reader, you will not, I repeat, YOU WILL NOT enter the pearly gates thinking it’s ok to celebrate Halloween. So many “so called” Christians think its an innocent tradition and that its ok to dress up as witches and warlocks and mimic the god’s of this world. I bet you did not even know that the Bible had already declared that one was NOT to celebrate this holiday, yet, as the enemy so cleverly has wrapped up yet another trick, you put your costume on and go door to door with your children asking for tricks and treats. Read what Deuteronomy 18:10 has to say. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Those are not my words, those are the Words of God and I want you not to be tricked. John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Choose today to forsake the worldly un-holy day of Halloween and instead take LIFE in JESUS! I promise you, you nor your child will be a sore thumb. There are plenty of parents and children who will be standing with you rejecting this un-holiday and standing up for the TRUTH which has made you free indeed. Below is a history exert of Halloween:

History traces Halloween back to the ancient religion of the Celtics in Ireland. The Celtic people were very conscious of the spiritual world and had their own ideas of how they could gain access to it – such as by helping their over 300 gods to defeat their enemies in battle, or by imitating the gods in showing cleverness and cunning.

Their two main feasts were Beltane at the beginning of summer (May 1), and Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween) at the end of summer (Nov. 1). They believed Samhain was a time when the division between the two worlds became very thin, when hostile supernatural forces were active and ghosts and spirits were free to wander as they wished.

“During this interval the normal order of the universe is suspended, the barriers between the natural and the supernatural are temporarily removed, the sidh lies open and all divine beings and the spirits of the dead move freely among men and interfere sometimes violently, in their affairs”
(Celtic Mythology, p. 127).

The Celtic priests who carried out the rituals in the open air were called Druids, members of pagan orders in Britain, Ireland and Gaul, who generally performed their rituals by offering sacrifices, usually of crops and animals, but sometimes of humans, in order to placate the gods; ensuring that the sun would return after the winter; and frightening away evil spirits.

To the Celtics, the bonfire represented the sun and was used to aid the Druid in his fight with dark powers. The term bonfire comes from the words “bone fire,” literally meaning the bones of sacrificed animals, sometimes human, were piled in a field with timber and set ablaze. All fires except those of the Druids were extinguished on Samhain and householders were levied a fee to relight their holy fire which burned at their altars. During the Festival of Samhain, fires would be lit which would burn all through the winter and sacrifices would be offered to the gods on the fires. This practice of burning humans was stopped around 1600, and an effigy was sometimes burned instead.

History Of Halloween
The origin of Halloween is fascinating and anyone interested in finding out about the history of Halloween and where this American tradition was founded, will find the information in this article to be eye-opening.

An Ancient Celebration
October 31, Halloween, is one of the more popular holidays for children. What child wouldn’t want to dress up as a monster or fairy and score a bag of candy in the process?

See what others are saying

When Christianity spread to parts of Europe, instead of trying to abolish these pagan customs, people tried to introduce ideas which reflected a more Christian world-view. Halloween has since become a confusing mixture of traditions and practices from pagan cultures and Christian tradition.

By A.D. 43, Romans had conquered the majority of Celtic territory. During their rule of the Celtic lands, Roman festivals were combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain. The Romans observed the holiday of Feralia, intended to give rest and peace to the departed. Participants made sacrifices in honor of the dead, offered up prayers for them, and made oblations to them. Another festival was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain probably explains the tradition of “bobbing” for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.

As the influence of Christianity spread into Celtic lands, in the 7th century, Pope Boniface IV introduced All Saints’ Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs, to replace the pagan festival of the dead. It was observed on May 13. In 834, Gregory III moved All Saint’s Day from May 13 to Nov. 1 and for Christians, this became an opportunity for remembering before God all the saints who had died and all the dead in the Christian community. Oct. 31 thus became All Hallows’ Eve (‘hallow’ means ’saint’).

Sadly, though, many of the customs survived and were blended in with Christianity. Numerous folk customs connected with the pagan observances for the dead have survived to the present.

In 1517, a monk named Martin Luther honored the faithful saints of the past by choosing All Saints Day (November 1) as the day to publicly charge the Church heirarchy with abandoning biblical faith. This became known as “Reformation Day,” a fitting celebration of the restoration the same biblical faith held by the saints throughout church history. [What about Halloween?]

Some trace the origins of present day “trick-or-treat” to Samhain, which was the supreme night of demonic jubilation. Spirits of the dead would rise out of their graves and wander the countryside, trying to return to the homes where they formerly lived. Frightened villagers tried to appease these wandering spirits by offering them gifts of fruit and nuts. They began the tradition of placing plates of the finest food and bits of treats that the household had to offer on their doorsteps, as gifts, to appease the hunger of the ghostly wanderers. If not placated, villagers feared that the spirits would kill their flocks or destroy their property.

The problem was… if the souls of dead loved ones could return that night, so could anything else, human or not, nice or not-so-nice. The only thing the superstitious people knew to do to protect themselves on such an occasion was to masquerade as one of the demonic hoard, and hopefully blend in unnoticed among them. Wearing masks and other disguises and blackening the face with soot were originally ways of hiding oneself from the spirits of the dead who might be roaming around. This is the origin of Halloween masquerading as devils, imps, ogres, and other demonic creatures.

Others trace “trick-or-treat” to a European custom called “souling”. Beggars would go from village to village begging for “soul cakes” made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors. At the time, it was believed that the dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers could guarantee a soul’s passage to heaven.

In many parts of Britain and Ireland this night used to be known as ‘Mischief Night’, which meant that people were free to go around the village playing pranks and getting up to any kind of mischief without fear of being punished. Many of the different customs were taken to the United States by Irish and Scottish immigrants in the nineteenth century, and they developed into ‘trick or treat’.

Traditional Halloween symbols (witches, black cats, pumpkins, candles, masks, parties and pranks) appeared in the U.S. during the late 1800’s. In 1848, millions of Irish emigrants poured into America as a result of the potato famine. With this sudden influx of people, the holiday of Druidism found its new home on alien shores. “Proudly Celtic, they called Halloween Oidche Shamhna (`Night of Samhain’), as their ancestors had, and kept the traditional observances” [Common Boundary, Sep./Oct. 1993, p. 31].

The Jack-o-lantern is the festival light for Halloween and is the ancient symbol of a damned soul. Originally the Irish would carve out turnips or beets as lanterns as representations of the souls of the dead or goblins freed from the dead.

When the Irish emigrated to America they could not find many turnips to carve into Jack O’Lanterns but they did find an abundance of pumpkins. Pumpkins seemed to be a suitable substitute for the turnips and pumpkins have been an essential part of Halloween celebrations ever since.

Pumpkins were cut with faces representing demons and was originally intended to frighten away evil spirits. It was said that if a demon or such were to encounter something as fiendish looking as themselves that they’d run away in terror, thus sparing the houses dwellers from the ravages of dark entities. They would have been carried around the village boundaries or left outside the home to burn through the night.

Bats, owls and other nocturanal animals, also popular symbols of Halloween, were originally feared because people believed that these creatures could communicate with the spirits of the dead.

Black cats have religious origins as well. Black cats were considered to be reincarnated beings with the ability to divine the future. During the Middle Ages it was believed that witches could turn themselves into black cats. Thus when such a cat was seen, it was considered to be a witch in disguise.

Witches and witchcraft are dominant themes of the holiday. Witches generally believe themselves to be followers of an ancient religion, which goes back far beyond Christianity, and which is properly called ‘wicca’. Witches are really just one side of a modern revival of paganism- the following of pre-Christian nature religions, the attempt to return to worshipping ancient Norse, Greek or Celtic gods and goddesses.

To witches, Halloween is a festival of the dead, and represents the “end and the beginning of the witches year. It marks the beginning of the death and destruction associated with winter. At this time the power of the underworld is unleashed, and spirits are supposedly freed to roam about the earth; it is considered the best time to contact spirits” (Halloween and Satanism, P. Phillips and J.H. Robie, 1987, p. 146).

The apostle Paul said Witchcraft is one of the acts of the sinful nature and those who practice it will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:16-21; see also Revelation 22:15).

Divination

The various activities traditional to Halloween are mostly associated with the idea of obtaining good fortune and foretelling the future. Samhain was a time when it was customary for the pagans to use the occult practice of divination to determine the weather for the coming year, the crop expectations, and even who in the community would marry whom and in what order.

  • The idea behind ducking, dooking or bobbing for apples seems to have been that snatching a bite from the apple enables the person to grasp good fortune. Unmarried people would attempt to take a bite out of an apple bobbing in a pail of water, or suspended on a string. The first person to do so was believed to be the next to marry.
  • Samhain is a time for getting rid of weakness, as pagans once slaughtered weak animals which were unlikely to survive the winter. A common ritual calls for writing down weaknesses on a piece of paper or parchment, and tossing it into the fire.
  • There used to be a custom of placing a stone in the hot ashes of the bonfire. If in the morning a person found that the stone had been removed or had cracked, it was a sign of bad fortune. Nuts have been used for divination: whether they burned quietly or exploded indicated good or bad luck.
  • Peeling an apple and throwing the peel over one’s shoulder was supposed to reveal the initial of one’s future spouse.
  • One way of looking for omens of death was for people to visit churchyards, because the spirits of those who were going to die during the coming year were thought to walk around the churchyard during this night.

Can we borrow pagan customs and superstitions of ancient peoples and “Christianize” them?

As believers, we are called to “Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. [1 Thesalonians 5:21-22] Who can deny that virtually all of the symbols of Halloween are evil? Witches, monsters, ogres, vampires, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, devils and demons all portray evil. Christians are to “… have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” [Ephesians 5:11]

Is Halloween just another innocent holiday that doesn’t harm anyone? Is it really just childish fun? Vandalism and wanton disregard for the property of others is common on Halloween night. Even normally well-behaved children are driven by unseen forces to destructive behavior. Police officials everywhere report a great increase in such activities on Halloween. Worse yet are the horrifying accounts of poisoned candy and fruits booby-trapped with razor blades and needles. Such threats are so real that many hospitals offer free X-rays of Halloween treats in order to prevent children from being harmed. Who but Satan could inspire such monstrous actions?

Should the church be compromised by accommodating itself to the culture?

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” [Romans 12:2]

“For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?” [2 Corinthians 6:14, 15]

When America and the world celebrates the Festival of Samhain and the powers of darkness by masquerading as evil creatures or decorating our homes, schools, businesses and churches with occult symbols, Satanic power is glorified.

The sort of practices celebrated on Halloween are what defiled the ancient nations [see Leviticus 18:24-30]. The Israelites were warned against such practices when they entered the Promised Land, “When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.” [Deuteronomy 18:9]

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. [Deuteronomy 18:10-14]

As an alternative to the celebration of evil and death, Christians should rather do what Christians are supposed to do every day and that is shine the light of Jesus Christ. We should emphasize the Christian influences and strive to make Hallow’s Eve a celebration of the acts of God through his people the saints. We should make it a day when acts of charity instead of vandalism and hatred abound. A day that emphasizes the light of Christ instead of the darkness of evil. A day when people meditate on the acts of Godly people instead of ghosts and goblins.

While you may have participated “all in fun,” be assured, Halloween is serious business for Satanists and witches. Those who oppose Christ are known to organize on Halloween to observe satanic rituals, to cast spells, to oppose churches and families, to perform sacrilegious acts, and to even offer blood sacrifices to Satan. While some may say, “But we only do this in fun…we don’t practice witchcraft,” those things that represent Satan and his domain cannot be handled or emulated “for fun”. Such participation places you in enemy and forbidden territory and that is dangerous ground.

Tom Sanguinet, former high priest in the Celtic tradition of Wicca (witchcraft) said “The modern holiday we call Halloween has its origins in the full moon closest to November 1, the witches’ New Year. It was a time when the “spirits” (demons) were supposed to be at their peak power and revisiting the earth planet.” He went on to say, “Halloween is purely and absolutely evil, and there is nothing we ever have or will do that would make it acceptable to the Lord Jesus.” [The Dark Side Of Halloween]

As evil prevails, Americans have embraced an evil day of Satan, with the pranks of ‘would be’ hoodlums, combined with ‘demon faces’ on pumpkins, clothing of ‘death’ being worn, and calling it fun. When Christians participate in Halloween, it sends a message to children that witchcraft, demonism, Satanism, and the occult are something fun, entertaining and harmless.

Many years ago, C.S. Lewis wrote that one of Satan’s most deceptive tactics is to convince people that he doesn’t exist. Apparently he has done a good job in his deception. Sadly, many people think of the devil as no more than a symbol of evil: like Santa Claus, he is just a fictional symbol. Many people today also do not think of witches as real people who practice magic, but simply as imaginary figures who represent the supernatural world and everything that is ’spooky.’

Recognizing this pagan holiday gives the false impression that what is actually lethal is innocuous. Some children develop a fascination with the supernatural which leads them later into more sinister occult practices. It’s the spiritual equivalent of painting a loaded gun to look like a toy and giving it to child to play with.

It is the kind of celebration that encourages kids like the 16-year-old in Pearl, Mississippi who stabbed his mother to death in her sleep and then opened fire at his high school, killing two students and wounding seven. Authorities found this student along with at least six others involved in a small, avowedly satanic clique that calls itself “Kroth.”

How some people can defend this kind of activity as just another innocent holiday that doesn’t harm anyone is beyond me.

Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. (John 3:19-20)

Central to Satan’s goals is the widespread acceptance of the supernatural, including the occult, on the part of North Americans, accompanied by a great revival of spiritism all over the world.

Over the last 30 or so years, the occult has moved into the mainstream of America – in television, movies, magazines, business, and various aspects of daily life. Movies, books, magazines and encyclopedias of the supernatural have abounded. Turn on your TV and hear from the ever-present “Psychic Friends” hotline, or see lead characters in TV shows meet their “spirit guide.” Entire bookstores devoted to the occult have become common. Universities regularly offer courses on witchcraft and magic – usually the so-called “white” variety. Myriads of mystical Eastern religions, bizarre and often demonic, have invaded North America and found in most cases an amazing responsiveness.

Indeed, Halloween has taken root in America. Americans spend $21 million on Halloween candies yearly second only to Christmas in total sales. Halloween is the Number 1 season for selling humorous greeting cards. In North America, some 25 million cards are sold annually. (Peter Smith, “By the Numbers,” The Toronto Star, 2002-OCT-27.) Halloween is the third-largest party occasion next to Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Increasingly the curriculum in many public schools is becoming a primer in occultism.
Impressions, a curriculum used in many school districts instructs teachers and students in how to cast spells. One teacher’s manual reads, “Tell the children that a magician has cast a spell on some children. Have them work in pairs to write the magic spell the magician used. Have each pair write another spell to reverse the first spell. Have them chant their spells.”

About 16,000 school districts use the Pumsey the Dragon curriculum, by Jill Anderson. Many of the relaxation techniques used are identical to those used in hypnosis. Another curriculum called Duso the Dolphin employs relaxation techniques and sends hypnotized youngsters off on guided fantasies to a place called Aquatron.

Satanism has become a phenomena that crosses the city limit into the rural areas of our nation. It is reported there are some 6000 witches, and approximately 10 million people are involved in the occult. However, it is very difficult to establish how many actually participate. These individuals are involved in a wide variety of activities from simply casting spells to human sacrifice. The news wires carry story after story about young children being kidnapped, only to be found later as victims of some bizarre ritualistic crime.

As satantic involvement among our youth increases, we begin to see the primary goal of such activity. According to Scripture (2 Cor. 4:4; Rev. 12:9), Satan’s goal is to deceive man by blinding him to the truth of the gospel and to receive worship for himself (Matt. 4:9; Isa. 14:12-14).

It has become clear that the primary goal is to alter an individual’s values and turn him against himself, his beliefs, family, God and society.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

Young satanists believe the strong will rule with Satan. Once an individual becomes involved, they often make a pact with Satan. They commit themselves to a future date when they will take their own lives by suicide. They believe if they submit themselves to Satan in death, they will come back in another life as a stronger being and rule with him forever. According to recent statistics, fourteen young people a day take their own lives.

Recently, a California skateboard manufacturer used a package enclosure similar in appearance to a gospel tract to encourage purchasers to sell their souls to the devil. The brochure titled, “Let’s Make a Deal” has a smiley-faced devil who explains to Flame Boy what happened in heaven after he was banished: “First off, they set up a bunch of dumb rules, and then they imposed a really strict dress code. I’l wager that people must be quite bored up there, but hey, that’s what they get for being good.” He contrasts this with, “Flame Boy, even a dimwit like you can see that hell is by far the best place to retire. Just look at all the fun to be had.” Children are asked to sign and return a contract, by which they give possession of their souls to the devil for eternity.

It does not have even one single redeeming virtue. It is custom born out of pagan superstition. It is a demon-inspired, devil-glorifying, occult festival. It is an evening holy unto evil, death, and divination. The Scriptures tells us to “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” [1Thess. 5:22]

Wake up Christian! This is the night of evil and those who love the Lord Jesus Christ should have nothing to do with it.

    PRAISE REPORT

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Saints do I have a testimony for you! I want to thank and praise God for his wonderful blessings he has given to me. God proves himself time and time again to be so faithful, so true, so just, so loving and so kind just like His Word says. Since moving to Georgia, God has blessed me yet again not only with great employment but with a new roof over my head for little of nothing. When I tell you, my credit report looks like a Christmas Tree. A hott mess literally! But with the help of God (and a few google searches) God allowed me to stumble upon a great apartment complex here in Atlanta GA that is drug free, crime free, no offense but kid free and it all came just because of the faith that I had in God’s Word. The apartment originally goes for $599 per month, its a one bedroom however because of my affiliation with the airline industry they have made my rent to be a low $449.25. That’s a 710 square foot 1 bedroom apartment. You cant tell me that my God aint GOOD ya hear! Wow, what a mighty God we serve.

I also thank and Praise God for the wonderful Apostolic Church that I have been going to that is completely multi cultural (just like how heaven is going to be). Tongues with interpretation, a slamming choir, a praise and worship team and wonderful members that just make you want to enjoy your trip to heaven. I have not joined yet but I think I just might. Oh by the way, EVERY SERVICE we baptise in Jesus Name and someone is being filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Its just amazing.

Fasting and Prayer Saints really works. Some people claim you dont need to do it anymore but I promise you, when you deny yourself for the things of God, God will take care of you. I thank and Praise God for the prayer life He is giving me. He is giving me Holy Boldness to proclaim His precious truth. Souls at work are now questioning what they must do to be saved and for that I am greatful.

I FIND NO FAULT IN THAT MAN JESUS ya hear! If you are looking for a job, He will give you gainful employment for His glory. If you are looking for a new apartment, God will give you exactly what your heart desires. I am a living testimony of what the Lord Jesus can do. If He did it for me He will do it for you but you have to be faithful.

I leave you with this scripure, Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Be blessed in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ my dear brothers and sisters!

Remember to fast today from 8-5pm. Also, lets keep in mind the Watson Family of Jersey City NJ in their hour of bereavement. On a final note, the United Pentecostal Church is in their General Conference. Let us pray that they have a powerful move of God and that souls are baptised in Jesus Name and filled with the Holy Ghost.

Witnessing: How to Witness to a Roman Catholic

    The Virgin Mary

What is Mariology?  Essentially, it’s the theology that affords devotion to Mary.  Does this mean the Catholics worship Mary?  Well, yes and no.  Publicly, the Roman Catholic Church does not afford Mary the same status as Jesus.  However, their reverence for her goes beyond their admiration for even the saints.  The Catholic Encyclopedia details a view of Mary that it admits is not Biblical.  Their view of her life and her role originate in Catholic tradition – that is, the writings of the popes and theologians, rather than in the Bible.

Biblically, Mary was betrothed to Joseph.  Because of her faith, she was chosen to give birth to the Messiah, Jesus Christ.  She was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit, and conceived Jesus.  There was no physical union, and therefore Jesus was born of a virgin.  While no doubt a faithful and godly woman, Mary was nonetheless just a woman.  In fact, apart from Acts 1:14, Mary is not mentioned anywhere outside the Gospels (the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).  Even in the Gospels, her spiritual power and authority are almost non-existent.  Neither Jesus, nor Paul, nor any other biblical writer ever gave Mary the place or devotion that the Catholic Church has given her.  The New Testament epistles (letters) were written for the spiritual guidance of the Church, and have a great deal to say about doctrine and worship.  Her absence from the epistles must then call into doubt the role that Catholics ascribe to her.

In Roman Catholicism, Mary (or as she’s also called: Our Blessed Lady, Our Blessed Virgin, etc.) is more than human.  Catholic Tradition includes the following teachings:

1 – Mary’s immaculate conception:  This doctrine teaches that she was born without original sin, and was therefore sinless throughout her life.

2 – During her tutelage in the temple as a child, Mary received almost nightly visits by angels.

3 – Mary’s perpetual virginity:  This doctrine asserts that she had no children before Jesus (a Biblical teaching) or after Him (unbiblical).

4 – Mary’s physical ascension into heaven:  This teaches that because of her sinlessness, Mary never experienced a physical death – the result of sin.  Instead, she was raised bodily into the presence of Christ.

5 – Mary’s role as Co-redemptrix and Mediatrix of all graces:  This doctrine holds that the obedience and sufferings of Mary were essential to secure the full redemption bought by Christ.

6 – Mary’s right to veneration and/or worship:  This teaching holds that because of her unparalleled role in salvation, Mary is worthy of special adoration.

There are three specific terms of worship in Catholicism:  latria – adoration that is due God alone, dulia – veneration afforded to the saints, and hyperdulia – special veneration given to Mary.  In practice, these become practically indistinguishable.  As a matter of point, Catholics pray to Mary and expect that she hears and answers all such prayers.  This elevates her to a position of deity.

I have already mentioned that the role that is ascribed to Mary by Catholics is unbiblical.  Let me give you more evidence of that.  Below, I have included an excerpt from the Catholic Encyclopedia, where the writer acknowledges that their interpretation of a passage in the book of Genesis must be more accurate than the original Hebrew text, as their interpretation ascribes more power to Mary:

The first prophecy referring to Mary is found in the very opening chapters of the Book of Genesis (3:15): “I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed; she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.” This rendering appears to differ in two respects from the original Hebrew text:

    (1)  ….

    (2) The second point of difference between the Hebrew text and our version concerns the agent who is to inflict the mortal wound on the servant: our version agrees with the present Vulgate text in reading “she” (ipsa) which refers to the woman, while the Hebrew text reads hu’ (autos, ipse) which refers to the seed of the woman. According to our version, and the Vulgate reading, the woman herself will win the victory; according to the Hebrew text, she will be victorious through her seed. In this sense does the Bull “Ineffabilis” ascribe the victory to Our Blessed Lady. The reading “she” (ipsa) is neither an intentional corruption of the original text, nor is it an accidental error; it is rather an explanatory version expressing explicitly the fact of Our Lady’s part in the victory over the serpent, which is contained implicitly in the Hebrew original. The strength of the Christian tradition as to Mary’s share in this victory may be inferred from the retention of “she” in St. Jerome’s version in spite of his acquaintance with the original text and with the reading “he” (ipse) in the old Latin version. [Highlighting added by Contender Ministries]

For the record, the text of Genesis 3:15 mentioned above is found that way only in the Catholic version of the Bible.  Other versions agree with the original Hebrew text in that the seed of the woman (Jesus) will do the crushing.  The Catholic Church has changed scripture to fit with their doctrines.  This tactic is the only way the Catholic Church can justify many of its teachings that are unbiblical.

In his book, Revelation Unveiled, author Tim LaHaye says this”

“One of the dangerous trends during the twentieth century in the Church of Rome is the elevation of Mary to a status just short of deity.  News media reports indicate that millions have petitioned the Pope to declare her a member of the Trinity, though the official line is that it is not going to happen – yet.  Already she is referred to as ‘the mother of God’ or ‘the queen of Heaven’ and in some instances appears to be the dispenser of salvation, which contradicts many Scriptures…To even suggest that anyone, even Mary the human mother of Jesus, participates in dispensing the gift of eternal life is not only heresy, it is blasphemous.”

As for the Catholic view of Mary as Mediatrix, let me refer you to:

1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”

    Purgatory

Perhaps one of the most unique doctrines of Catholicism is that of purgatory.  Purgatory is a place of burning torment and suffering that follows physical death, but precedes heaven.  According to Catholic doctrine, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from original sin – that is, the sin inherent in humans that occurred via the fall in the Garden of Eden.  Each individual commits sins on top of the original sin, for which only the sinner may atone.  This is achieved partly through penance and adherence to the sacraments during their lifetime.  The remaining blemishes of sin must be cleansed through the fires of purgatory, prior to entering heaven.  One can think of it in terms of twisted halfway house where one must be sufficiently tortured before being allowed to matriculate into decent society.  The Catholic Encyclopedia defines purgatory this way:

Purgatory (Lat., “purgare”, to make clean, to purify) in accordance with Catholic teaching is a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God’s grace, are, not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.

All sins are not equal before God, nor dare anyone assert that the daily faults of human frailty will be punished with the same severity that is meted out to serious violation of God’s law. On the other hand whosoever comes into God’s presence must be perfectly pure for in the strictest sense His “eyes are too pure, to behold evil” (Hab., i, 13). For unrepented venial faults for the payment of temporal punishment due to sin at time of death, the Church has always taught the doctrine of purgatory.

The Catholic Church teaches that faithful Catholics should pray for their loved ones who are in purgatory, in order to hasten their purification and allow them to go on to Heaven sooner.

The Catholic doctrine of purgatory supposes the fact that some die with smaller faults for which there was no true repentance, and also the fact that the temporal penalty due to sin is it times not wholly paid in this life. The proofs for the Catholic position, both in Scripture and in Tradition, are bound up also with the practice of praying for the dead. For why pray for the dead, if there be no belief in the power of prayer to afford solace to those who as yet are excluded from the sight of God? So true is this position that prayers for the dead and the existence of a place of purgation are mentioned in conjunction in the oldest passages of the Fathers, who allege reasons for succouring departed souls. Those who have opposed the doctrine of purgatory have confessed that prayers for the dead would be an unanswerable argument if the modern doctrine of a “particular judgment” had been received in the early ages.

The “proofs” used by the Catholic Church to support the doctrine of purgatory come from Catholic Tradition (the writings of the Popes and saints) as opposed to Biblical scripture.  This isn’t to say that they have not attempted to support the doctrine Biblically.  The following passage from the Catholic Encyclopedia provides what it describes as proof from the Old Testament of the Bible.  However, this “proof” comes from the Apocrypha.  As stated in another section, the Apocrypha, or “Deuterocanonical Books” are hotly contested and are only found in the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Bibles.  Most Protestants and Jews have disregarded the Apocrypha as scripture, due to numerous chronological and other errors that cast doubt on divine inspiration.  During the Protestant reformation, Luther sided with Jerome, the translator of the Latin Vulgate, in deciding that the Apocryphal books should not be considered Scripture.  Jerome gave his support to the Israel/Palestine Jews who rejected the Apocrypha instead of the Hellenistic Jews who readily embraced these books.  While the inclusion of the Apocrypha had been decided at the Councils of Hippo and Carthage late in the fourth century, Luther’s action caused the Roman Catholic Church to react by reaffirming the canonicity of the Apocrypha at the Council of Trent in 1546.  It is largely based on these books that the Catholic Church supports their peculiar doctrines, including the doctrine of purgatory.  The passages mentioned below are found in the Apocrypha:

The tradition of the Jews is put forth with precision and clearness in II Maccabees. Judas, the commander of the forces of Israel, “making a gathering . . . sent twelve thousand drachmas of silver to Jerusalem for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection (For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead). And because he considered that they who had fallen asleep with godliness, had great grace laid up for them. “It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins” (II Mach., xii, 43-46). At the time of the Maccabees the leaders of the people of God had no hesitation in asserting the efficacy of prayers offered for the dead, in order that those who had departed this life might find pardon for their sins and the hope of eternal resurrection.

If you are searching through your Bible trying to find II Maccabees, you’d better have a Catholic Bible.  As part of the Apocrypha, it is not in most Protestant or Jewish Bibles.  The Catholics also use the following passages from the Bible to support the doctrine of purgatory, but if you read the passages carefully, you’ll find the Catholic interpretations to be a wide stretch of what is written:

There are several passages in the New Testament that point to a process of purification after death. Thus, Jesus Christ declares (Matthew 12:32): “And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but he that shall speak against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come.” According to St. Isidore of Seville (Deord. creatur., c. xiv, n. 6) these words prove that in the next life “some sins wil be forgiven and purged away by a certain purifying fire.” St. Augustine also argues “that some sinners are not forgiven either in this world or in the next would not be truly said unless there were other [sinners] who, though not forgiven in this world, are forgiven in the world to come” (De Civ. Dei, XXI, xxiv). The same interpretation is given by Gregory the Great (Dial., IV, xxxix); St. Bede (commentary on this text); St. Bernard (Sermo lxvi in Cantic., n. 11) and other eminent theological writers.

A further argument is supplied by St. Paul in I Cor., iii, 11-15: “For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid; which is Christ Jesus. Now if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay stubble: Every man’s work shall be manifest; for the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it shall be revealed in fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work, of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide, which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work burn, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.” While this passage presents considerable difficulty, it is regarded by many of the Fathers and theologians as evidence for the existence of an intermediate state in which the dross of lighter transgressions will be burnt away, and the soul thus purified will be saved.

I’ll admit I’m somewhat at a loss as to how best address their interpretation of the scripture above – mostly because I don’t know what logic they used to twist these meanings out of those verses.  As for the passage from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, one should back up and start on verse 10, where Paul says he laid a foundation as an expert builder, by the grace God gave him.  Gold, silver, and precious stones represent durable work that will stand the test of divine judgment.  Wood, hay, or straw denotes worthless work that will not stand the test, and are consumed by fire.  The work of some believers will stand the test while that of others will disappear – emphasizing the importance of teaching the pure word of God.  As for the last verse that reads that he shall escape, yet so as by fire.  In the New International Version of the Bible, it reads, “he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through flames.”  The best interpretation indicates that the original language was a Greek proverbial phrase, which means, “by a narrow escape”.  A modern equivalent might be, “escaped by the skin of his teeth”.  Paul is really trying to drive home this point:  Okay, so you’ve been saved.  Great.  Wonderful.  What are you going to do with this opportunity?  Will you squander it, or will you live a life in service to your Lord?

One of the stranger aspects of purgatory is the belief that one can pray to the souls of loved ones who are in purgatory, and ask for intercession.  Some believe that the souls in purgatory can pray for and intercede in the lives of the living.  Here is what the Catholic Encyclopedia has to say on the matter:

Do the souls in purgatory pray for us? May we call upon them in our needs? There is no decision of the Church on this subject, nor have the theologians pronounced with definiteness concerning the invocation of the souls in purgatory and their intercession for the living. In the ancient liturgies there are no prayers of the Church directed to those who are still in purgatory. On the tombs of the early Christians nothing is more common than a prayer or a supplication asking the departed to intercede with God for surviving friends, but these inscriptions seem always to suppose that the departed one is already with God. St. Thomas (II-II:83:11) denies that the souls in purgatory pray for the living, and states they are not in a position to pray for us, rather we must make intercession for them. Despite the authority of St. Thomas, many renowned theologians hold that the souls in purgatory really pray for us, and that we may invoke their aid. Bellarmine (De Purgatorio, lib. II, xv,) says the reason alleged by St. Thomas is not at all convincing, and holds that in virtue of their greater love of God and their union with Him their prayers may have great intercessory power, for they are really superior to us in love of God, and in intimacy of union with Him. Suarez (De poenit., disp. xlvii, s. 2, n. 9) goes farther and asserts “that the souls in purgatory are holy, are dear to God, love us with a true love and are mindful of our wants; that they know in a general way our necessities and our dangers, and how great is our need of Divine help and divine grace”.

When there is question of invoking the prayers of those in purgatory, Bellarmine (loc. cit.) says it is superfluous, ordinarily speaking, for they are ignorant of our circumstances and condition. This is at variance with the opinion of Suarez, who admits knowledge at least in a general way, also with the opinions of many modern theologians who point to the practice now common with almost all the faithful of addressing their prayers and petitions for help to those who are still in a place of purgation. Scavini (Theol. Moral., XI, n. l74) sees no reason why the souls detained in purgatory may not pray for us, even as we pray for one another. He asserts that this practice has become common at Rome, and that it has the great name of St. Alphonsus in its favour. St. Alphonsus in his work the “Great Means of Salvation”, chap. I, III, 2, after quoting Sylvius, Gotti, Lessius, and Medina as favourable to his opinion, concludes: “so the souls in purgatory, being beloved by God and confirmed in grace, have absolutely no impediment to prevent them from praying for us. Still the Church does not invoke them or implore their intercession, because ordinarily they have no cognizance of our prayers. But we may piously believe that God makes our prayers known to them”. He alleges also the authority of St. Catharine of Bologna who “whenever she desired any favour had recourse to the souls in purgatory, and was immediately heard”.

In summary, the doctrine of purgatory is unbiblical.  Its foundation lies not in Biblical scripture, but in Catholic Tradition.  The Apocrypha should not be considered part of Biblical scripture, and the verses in the New Testament were twisted to fit an already established doctrine.

    The Pope

Of the numerous doctrines Roman Catholics must believe under pain of grievous sin, there are two upon which the entire religion is dependent for its continued existence.  Without these two foundational doctrines, the Roman Catholic religion comes crashing down to the ground of irrelevancy. In my Catholic childhood, I learned these two doctrines before I could read or write. To the question, “Which is the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ?” I learned as a little shaver to answer, “The Catholic Church is the one true Church founded by Christ.” To the second question, “And upon what did Jesus found His Church?” my response was, “Jesus founded His Church on the rock of Peter who was the first pope.”

When the Lord Jesus saved me at the advanced age of 52, it became obvious very soon thereafter that there is something radically wrong with those two foundational doctrines.

And, since the first – the true Church claim – rests squarely on the allegation that Peter was ordained to be its first pope, it is quite appropriate to seek in the Scriptures proof that Jesus really did give Peter such an assignment. There, in the inerrant Word of God, we  have every right to expect to find Peter’s appointment clearly set forth, established as a  fact beyond a shadow of a doubt. What we do find, though, is what follows.

The English word, “pope,” comes from the Latin word, “papa,” which means “father.”

But our Lord told His disciples, (and us through them), “…call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. (Matthew 23:9) This had to be meant in a spiritual sense since we all have earthly fathers, while our heavenly Father is a spirit to be worshiped in spirit and truth. (John 4:24) And based on this admonition from Jesus, there shouldn’t even be a Catholic priesthood much less a papacy, for all Catholic priests are addressed as, “Father.” More on that later.

On another occasion, when His Apostles were disputing about leadership matters, Our Lord called them together for a disclosure of His organizational plan. He said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall NOT BE SO AMONG YOU: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.” (Matthew 20:25-27) From this, it is clear Jesus was strongly opposed to any “prince” or “princes” exercising dominion over His flock.

Historically, it was not until the 3rd century, nearly 200 years after our Lord’s return to His heavenly throne, that a bishop of Rome – one of hundreds of independent bishops existing at that time – cited Matthew 16:18 as evidence Peter had been appointed bishop of Rome and head of the Church. This was a brazen grab for power by Calixtus 1 whose interpretation of Matthew 16:18 contradicted that of the leading theologians of his day. That grab for power died an ignominious death when Tertullian, bishop of Carthage, and others, called Calixtus 1 a “usurper.” From our vantage point 2000 years later, it is unimpeachable proof that Rome lies when it claims the office of the papacy has been in existence from the time of Peter.

Remember, if you will, the episode at Caesarea Philippi. There, Jesus asked His Apostles, “Who do YE say that I am?” It was Peter who responded for the twelve with this statement of FACT: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Then said our Lord, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, that thou art PETER, and upon this ROCK I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:17, 18) In English, Latin, Aramaic, and other languages the words Peter and rock are entirely different. Unfortunately for Roman Catholics whose beliefs rest heavily on the papacy, Greek is a far more precise language.

In Greek, Peter is petros, masculine gender, defined as a small rock, one that can be picked up and skipped across the surface of a pond. It is a derivative of the root word,

petra, feminine gender, defined as massive foundation rock. If we insert Greek definitions for petros and petra, what our Lord said in Matthew 16:18 reads like this: “Thou art Little Rock, and upon this Massive Foundation Rock I will build my Church.”

To the most respected theologians of the early Church, the Massive Foundation Rock of

Matthew 16:18 was not Peter, but Peter’s statement of FACT – “Thou art the Christ, (Jewish Messiah) the Son of the living God.” That Jesus was and is the Messiah promised in Genesis, that He was and is the Son of God incarnate, are, in fact, the very foundation of Christianity. And that is exactly what was taught in opposition to Calixtus 1 by Cyril, Hilary, Tertullian, Jerome, (producer of the Latin Vulgate Bible), Basil, Ambrose, Augustine, Leo the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and the much-honored Greek scholar, Chrysostom.

Unfortunately, what the most famous early believers taught is not always considered by the Vatican to be the “Sacred Tradition” on which doctrines are based. For example, the great Augustine, besides opposing Peter as the Church’s foundation rock, staunchly opposed the doctrine of Mary’s Immaculate Conception which budded in the 5th century. The equally influential Aquinas did the same 800 years later. Hence, as in the Immaculate Conception matter, the Vatican totally disregarded the early theologians’ teachings about Matthew 16:18, even though Christ – as recorded in John’s Gospel – had given Peter the same name of small rock or stone in Aramaic long before the events at Caesarea Philippi. “when Jesus beheld him, (Peter) he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.” (John 1:42) That Matthew 16:18 can in no way be interpreted as an appointment of Peter to be the first pope is even more evident when other Scriptures from both the Old and New Testament are considered.

Beginning in Exodus, the Old Testament is full of references to Jesus, the coming Messiah, as the foundation rock of saving faith. He it is who is symbolized by the rocks out of which came fresh water in Exodus 17:6 and Numbers 20:10. Moses, in Deuteronomy 32:4, wrote, “He (Jesus) is the ROCK.” Rebuking the Nation of Israel in 32:18, he said, Of the ROCK that begat thee thou art unmindful.” And in 32:31, he said, “…their (the enemy’s) rock is not as our ROCK.” In her prayer for a man child recorded in 1 Samuel 2:2, Hannah says, “…neither is there any ROCK like our God.” And David, just escaped from Saul, in 2 Samuel 22:2 gives credit for his safety this way: “The LORD is my ROCK, and my fortress, and my deliverer.”

Clear references to our Lord as the ROCK spoken of throughout the Scriptures, also are found in Psalms 18, 28, 31, 40, 42, 61, 62, 71, 78, 89, 92, 94, and 95. See also Isaiah 8:14, 17:10, and 51:1. In Hebrew, the word for rock is cela, and its definition is “crag, cliff, rock,” definitely not the kind of rock or stone one launches at a squirrel on the bird feeder.

In the New Testament, our Lord’s parable of the wise and foolish builders, recorded in Matthew 7 and Luke 6, leaves no doubt that Jesus, not Peter, is the foundation rock on which those who are wise establish their faith. Paul recognized Christ was the nation of Israel’s rock and the foundation of Christianity as well. “….(they, the Jews) did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual ROCK that followed them: and that ROCK was Christ.” (1 Cor. 10:4) Earlier, in 1 Corinthians 3:11, Paul made absolutely certain there would be no mistaking upon whom Christ’s Church was being built. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

The foregoing cited Scriptures not only don’t support Rome’s claim that Peter was ordained a pope, the first in the Vatican’s alleged unbroken chain of popes, they actually contradict the claim, and they contradict it most emphatically. Moreover, one comes up “empty” again when trying to find passages that show Peter and the other Apostles, Paul included, were clearly aware of Peter’s election to leadership by Jesus. Nor is it obvious from God’s Word that Peter spent enough time in Rome to have functioned as that city’s first bishop.

In his own first epistle, Peter acknowledges a title far different from bishop or pope. Says he, “The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an ELDER.” (1 Peter 5:1)

Then he says: “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as BEING LORDS over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.” From these words in particular, and from the general tenor of both his letters, one concludes that Peter had no idea he had been ordained the first pope of a Church that did not come into existence until the 5th century.

In the account of the Church’s first general council reported in Acts 15, it is James, the brother of Jesus, and not Peter, who provides the solution to the problem under discussion. (Cf. Acts 15:13-23.) Even before that council, Peter was not acting like the supreme leader of the flock. Rather than directing the actions of others, he was being directed, as the following attests. “Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, THEY SENT unto them Peter and John.” (Acts 8:14) It was the same John, who, along with his brother James, had sought

from Jesus the promise of sitting one on His right hand, and one on His left in the coming kingdom. This, long after Matthew 16:18 had taken place, and a clear indication that the Apostles had no idea Peter had been ordained their leader.

There is additional biblical evidence refuting the Vatican’s alleged Petrine papacy to be found in Paul’s letter to the Roman Churches. At the end of that letter, he salutes 27 named individuals, none of whom is Peter. Why is that if Peter was bishop of Rome? Also, in Acts 23, Paul not knowing it was the High Priest he was addressing, called him a “whited wall.” (Acts 23:3) When informed that his epithet had been directed at the High Priest, Paul was instantly repentant. Said he, “I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.” But in his

letter to the Galatian churches Paul is openly critical of Peter, saying, “when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.(Acts 2:11) What Paul said directly to Peter in front of many witnesses was this: “…If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?” (Acts 2:14) If Peter had been ordained bishop of Rome and head of the Church, Paul certainly would have been aware of the fact and would not have been openly critical of him in front of others.

Finally, still consulting the Scriptures, we learn that Paul, not Peter, received the Gospel directly from the lips of Jesus. “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Gal 1:11,12) And in 2 Peter 3:16, we get the impression that at least some of what Christ had given to Paul was not known to Peter, for he says that in Paul’s letters “are some things hard to be understood.” Inevitably comes this question, if Jesus made Peter head of the Church, why was Paul the one chosen to receive the Gospel directly from our Lord?

The binding and loosing authority the Vatican claims exclusively for its popes was given

to all of the Apostles, not just Peter; (Matthew 18:18) and, in fact to all believers when

Jesus said, Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven; For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18: 19,20)

When all of the Scriptures having to do with Peter’s alleged ordination as pope are reviewed it becomes manifestly clear that he was only one of twelve chosen men, who will sit on twelve thrones in the millennium, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:30). A bishop of Rome he was not. A pope he was not. And when historical facts are studied – as will be done in a separate article – they will positively confirm what has already been seen in the divine Scriptures.

How To Witness To A Catholic

Love: Approach with Love. We are commanded to love. John 13:34 says, “Love one another as I have loved you.” If you don’t approach someone with Love, how can you expect them to see the Love of God through you. That’s really what you are trying to show them. God loved us so much that he sent his son to suffer and die to pay the penalty for our sins if we will only choose to follow him. We have reviewed how to approach a Catholic with knowledge, understanding and love. But, what do you say to them? Prepare with prayer. God will speak through you if your intentions are pure. One of the greatest gifts we have is the Word of God.

    Apostolic Doctrine: Modesty

    Modesty

Holiness involves both the inner man and the outer man (I Corinthians 6:19-20; I Thessalonians 5:23). We must perfect holiness by cleansing ourselves of filthiness both of the flesh and of the spirit (II Corinthians 7:1). For example, lustful thoughts are as sinful as an act of adultery(Matthew 5:27-28), and hatred is just as sinful as murder (I John 3:15). Holiness, then, includes attitudes, thoughts, and spiritual stewardship on the one hand and actions, appearance, and physical stewardship on the other. One without the other is insufficient. Inward holiness will produce outward holiness, but the outward appearance of holiness is worthless without inward holiness. For example, a modest spirit will produce modest dress, but modest dress is of little value if it conceals a lustful heart.

Holiness or sanctification is not a means of earning salvation but a result of salvation. As such, it comes by grace through faith. Holiness cannot be manufactured bywords of the flesh but must come as we submit to the leadership and control of the Holy Spirit. We are holy in a twofold sense. On the one hand, we receive an immediate sanctification (separation from sin) through the death of Christ when we are baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:11; Hebrews10:10). God counts us holy by imputing Christ’s righteousness to us. On the other hand, we must follow after and seek holiness (Hebrews 12:14). We must strive after holiness and receive the progressive work of sanctification. We are already sanctified, but we are also called to be saints (sanctified, holy ones) (I Corinthians 1:2).

Early Baptists were at first grouped with the Puritans, but they began to organize separately in England in the17th century. They, too, adhered to holiness teaching. Some Baptist groups still remain quite conservative on holiness issues. For example, the Baptist Bible Fellowship opposes dancing, drinking, smoking, gambling, and themovies.27 in 1984 the Southern Baptist Convention admonished all members not to use tobacco or alcohol.

Many independent Baptists teach against worldly amusements, immodest dress, and women wearing pants, and women cutting their hair. Sword of the Lord Publishers prints a number of books and booklets that deal with these issues, including John R. Rice’s Amusements for Christians and Elizabeth Rice Hanford’s Your Clothes Say it for You. Liberty Baptist College, founded by Jerry Falwell, has a dress and conduct code for its student body of over 4000: “Men are not allowed to grow beards or mustaches, or to wear hair that touches their shirt collars or covers the tops of their ears. . . . Women are expected to dress modestly. Students are not allowed to dance or attend movies.”

Many times what we wear helps to mold their expectations as well as our own. When a woman wears an immodest dress, she begins to think of herself as seductive and acts accordingly. Other people perceive her as provocative and treat her as such, which reinforces her behavior. In short, appearance both reflects and to large degree determines what we are in the eyes of self and others.

We must ask what practices of the time concerned God enough for Him to inspire this passage. What clothing did Paul have in mind when he warned against immodesty of dress? In a day when women wore robes to the ankle, what type of immodest dress existed? If Paul found immodest clothing in an age characterized by greater modesty of dress than our own, certainly he would consider many styles of clothing today to be immodest. As Chapter 8 will note, many women of the time tucked in their tunics above the knee for convenience in certain activities, and the early church fathers considered this immodest. God was concerned about modesty of dress in a day when even exposing the upper leg was considered immodest. In Isaiah47:2-3 God considered baring the leg and uncovering the thigh to be shameful exposure of nakedness. This gives us a good idea as to what God would regard as the minimum standard of modesty, regardless of culture.

The basic reason for modesty of dress is to subdue the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. The exposed body tends to arouse improper thoughts in both wearer and onlooker. To implement the purpose behind modest dress, the body should basically be covered, except for those parts which we must use openly for normal living. This suggests that clothes should cover the torso and upper limbs. Reasonable guidelines, then, would-be women’s dresses over the knee and sleeves to the elbow. In addition, we should avoid low necklines, sleeveless dresses or shirts, very tight clothes, very thin clothes, and slacks on women because they immodestly reveal the feminine contours of upper leg, thigh, and hip. Likewise, swimming in mixed company is immodest. Since the primary effect of makeup is to highlight sex appeal, we reject makeup as immodest.

To some degree modesty is culturally relative. We must certainly dress in a manner that would be considered modest for the occasion and in the judgment of our culture. For example, 19th century society considered it improper for a woman to expose any of her leg in public. Applying principles of Christian liberty, a Christian woman of that day should not have worn a knee-length dress, for this would have brought reproach upon her and the Lord. However, there must be a minimum of modesty that is absolute. Otherwise, if society condoned total nudity, Christians could walk around nude. If so, we could delete I Timothy 2:9 from the Bible as irrelevant.

Finally, the heart must be modest and motives pure. Conduct, gestures, gait, body language, and speech must be modest. If a woman wants to, she can display her body immodestly and act seductively even in the most modest of dresses. We must never use dress to promote immodest conduct, and no degree of external modesty can cover-up an immodest, lustful spirit.

A sign posted in an Orthodox Jewish district of Jerusalem provides an interesting definition of modesty for women’s dress:” Passage permitted ‘only’ to women dressed modestly! Long dress, lower than knee length (no slacks).Long sleeves, beyond elbow length. Closed Neckline”(National Geographic, July 1985, p. 30).

Bishop Weeks and The Holy Hook Up (Reality Show)????????? Oh Come On Now!

Now I know yall have heard about this right? This is just pure foolishness. When are we going to stop making a mockery of the House Of God….I don’t get it…..I just DON’T GET IT… Below is the article taken directly from his website……Lord Help!

WHAT IS THE HOLY HOOK UP?
Have you ever had a friend who constantly wants you to “hook” him or her up with someone slightly…okay completely out of their range? Much like how Will Smith’s character helped countless, hopeless men wanting that one shot with the woman of their dreams in the film ‘Hitch’…The women they saw on a regular basis, in yoga class, at the grocery store or even living in the same apartment building. However those women never noticed the men who held them in such high regard.

“What the Holy Hook Up aims to do is make the impossible, very much possible. With the help of our resident matchmaker Bishop Thomas Weeks III’, four individuals will have a shot at the man or woman of their dreams.”

WHO IS BISHOP THOMAS WEEKS III?
Bishop Thomas Weeks III is a world-renowned author, pastor and teacher. We’ve all heard about his lavished wedding to Juanita Bynum. We’ve all also seen the reports and heard the church house gossip on the break up of that marriage.Bishop Thomas Weeks III wants to go beyond the silence and open the doors to a truthful search for the Next Mrs. Weeks.

    HOW IT WORKS?
Four couples will be invited by Bishop Thomas Weeks to Atlanta for a three month stay. All couples will reside together. Women in one quarters and men in another. Bishop Weeks will submit these couples to a series of marital counseling, planning and preparations to find out if they are truly meant to marry each other or inform them if they should walk away from the potential union. As Bishop Weeks counsels the four couples, he himself will start his search for the Next Mrs. Weeks. Each week, Bishop Weeks will meet his new date and assess whether she has the potential to become a finalist for becoming the Next Mrs. Weeks. This search will not be easy. Bishop Weeks is looking for someone who will share his vision of ministry and entrepreneurial spirit. Every week there will be a secret challenge set up by Bishop Weeks for the dater to pass. These challenges can range from the very basic to the outrageous. At the end of the series there will be a wedding. The union can be that of Bishop Weeks or that of his understudies. This series will be filled with surprise guest appearances as well as a special guest appearance for the live finale.

    GOAL
The goal is to tear down the walls around churches all over the world. We want to take the masks off and reveal the truth about dating and marrying under Godly principles. We will confront sexual temptation, trust and the truth behind failed relationships.

Join The Pope Of Pentecost Each Wednesday From 8am-5pm In Fasting And Prayer (Putting The Flesh Under Subjection!)

    Mark 9:29
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Praise The Lord! Last night, the Lord Jesus Christ lead me to start a national fast with all of my friends and readers of the Pope Of Pentecost Blog. It started after a phone conversation happened between me and 2 other Apostolic Brothers from NYC. It is apparent that the economy has everyone going bananas. Lack of employment, lack of motivation, lack of zeal and more so lack of self control of the flesh. After we talked we all prayed together and the Holy Ghost fell like rain over the phone. My God did we have church. We decided that each Wednesday from 8am to 5pm (until the Lord tells us otherwise) that we would specifically fast to put our flesh under subjection. The bible says in Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Oh, that flesh is something else. It can cause one to steal, it can ruin peoples lives by causing one to have illicit sex, and eventually DEATH! We must learn to walk in the Spirit of Christ so that we will NOT fulfill the lust of the flesh. 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Do you not realise that the devil is trying his best to destroy the children of God. How? Through your mind which eventually is seen through your flesh. Its time to fast Saints and I want you to join us across the United States of America.

So what kind of fast is this? Well, every Wednesday we want your attire to be black and white similiar to old testament times of sackcloth and ashes (Daniel 9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.) We want you to have not one bite of food from the hours of 8am to 5pm (with the exception of water). We are NOT seeking GOD for jobs, homes/apartments and money. We are seeking God to help us put this flesh under subjection.  1 Peter 5:6 says to Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

I’ve started to make some phone calls and each of my true friends have headed the voice of the Lord. They jumped right on it and said they want to be a part of this fast. WATCH GOD MOVE Saints. Watch God deliver. Watch God set us free. So join me and the rest of your Apostolic brothers and sisters in this fast, and watch God have His way in our lives in Jesus Name! So again, each Wednesday, put your black and white on, women cover your heads with chapel veils or hats (1 Corinthians 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?) and lets bombard heaven with our prayers.
